Current ‘Mythology’ on How Earth Was Formed

It is likely that when the Earth was first forming in our young solar neighbor- hood, it was a molten mass of rock and metals simmering at about 3,600° Fahrenheit (2,000° Celsius).

The main cloud elements included hydrogen, helium, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, silicon, iron, nickel, phosphorus, sulfur, and others.

As the sphere (Earth) cooled, the heavier metals like iron and nickel sunk deeper into the molten core, while the lighter elements like silicon rose to the surface, cooled a bit, and began to form a thin crust.

This crust floated on a sea of molten rock approximately four billion years ago, sputtering volcanic gases and steam from the impact of visitors like ice comets.

Millions more years passed like this while an atmosphere gradually formed.

Rain condensed and poured down, cooling the crust into one large chunk and gathering into low spots and cracks, forming oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and streams.

  1. I liked the way it was a very detailed but simple article. It is very interesting how our “neighborhood” was formed, with such heat and how it cooled down. This taught me a lot about the history of our universe.
This also shows the relation between environmental science and science “experiments”. It shows how the earth was formed, using units to measure the temperature.

  2. I love how it’s detailed and doesn’t just straight up say the earth was formed because blah blah blah boom done no it says info about the temp

  3. Hi Mr Aly I really liked how I learned more about how earth was really formed and what I learned was that As the sphere (Earth) cooled, the heavier metals like iron and nickel sunk deeper into the molten core, while the lighter elements like silicon rose to the surface, cooled a bit, and began to form a thin crust. I thought this was really cool to read about and learn about while I was reading this passage!!!!!!!!

    Thank You
