Understanding Mother Earth

Native peoples were completely dependent on nature for everything in their lives. They worshipped Earth as a nurturing mother. The soil sprouted plants and trees that provided food, clothing, and shelter. The rivers and seas gave up fish and shellfish for food, trade articles, and tools. From the atmosphere came rain, snow, and wind to water crops and adjust the seasons. Earth, never stagnant or dull, provided a lot for early stewards of her resources. Ancient peoples thought that Mother Earth worked together with Father Sun. Together, they provide for those who honored her.

In early Greek mythology, the Earth goddess Gaia is an all-nourishing deity. When she was happy, the crops flourished. When she was happy, fishermen and hunters were successful, and everything thrived.

Today, astronauts who orbit Earth in space ships marvel at her beauty. They work toward her care. Other scientists have communicated their wonder and appreciation for our fragile world. All them work to address global issues. Any study of the environment includes many facets of this planet we call home. Environmental science encompasses worldwide environmental factors. This includes the study of air, light, moisture, wind, soil, and other living organisms.

The Earth’s limitless beauty and complexity provide broad areas for scientific study. Researchers are focusing their skills on the hundreds of environmental factors. These natural and industrial factors affect the environment. We know a lot, but so much is still unidentified. Our environment changes through millions of years. Some of these changes, like the climate, are speeding up. Today, environmental scientists are sorting through tons of data. They do this to understand the impacts of modern processes on all aspects.

Environmental biology includes all the external factors that affect an organism or community and that influence its development or existence.

  1. The native people depended on mother earth to supply them with what they needed. To them, Mother earth was almost like a real person, a real mother. If Mother earth was not here we would not be here right now. What interested me was, how they depended on Mother Earth-like we do now days. We do not treat Mother Earth, as well as the natives, had done. My one question is can we will live a day without mother nature here by our side.

  4. Mother Earth, as you could tell was important to the Natives. They believed in her much more than we do and respected her.We don’t call her our mother as much as they did but we still appreciate the things and nature she has brought to this Earth. We admire her beauty as we should. What interested me was that she made this world we live in.It is amazing and we find new things every day.She knows how to balance our Earth and does it well.My question is “what would we do if Mother Earth wasn’t here to balance our world, like the way it is?”

I loved the explanation on what they meant on a nurturing mother. One thing was that the text was a little confusing but I do understand the meaning and theme

  8. The video we watched mentioned that the Earth was not always fair. I found this interesting because Mother Earth can be good but people have different perspectives.
