Our Place in the Universe, and the Fragility of Life

For Environmental Science, we use this video to get an idea of the special the Earth is at the scale of the entire Universe. There are billions of galaxies, and within each galaxy billions of stars, and around hundreds of planets, but it is only around our Sun that we find Earth, our home, where our entire environment can be found. That is why we have to care for our home, Mother Earth, because we don’t know of any place like it in the Universe.

For Life Science, we notice the second half of the video, where we find life thriving in a drop of water. We go down the pyramid of life, from an ecosystem to a community and then to a population. We enter the body of a single-celled organism, and dive into its nucleus, into the DNA, into atoms and subatomic particles.

  1. I think it’s cool how the video shows the Earth and then we go farther into the Universe by the powers of ten and we go farther in light years. And then how we zoom into our solar system and our planet Earth by the powers of ten as well. Then how we zoom into a drop of water and go into it by the powers of ten and what is inside the little drop of water is so much full of particles which is crazy how a little drop of water has so much inside of it. It shows me how much something has inside of it doesn’t matter no matter what the size.

  2. i really like how the video is showing us that the littlest thing have to work the hardest . for example i personally never really cared what was in water or even a drop of water , i thought since water isn’t really living it was just water but i have realized that some really important things are beneath what the human i can judge
